Responsible Travel – East Coast
Group arrives in NYC
Morning pickup from New York hotel and head out to an area now immortilzed by reality TV, the Jersey Shore home to Ocean City boardwalk.
We head out of the Jersey Shore and down to Washington DC, the perfect introduction to the social, cultural and political history of the United States. Explore the best of America’s Capitol – from the Smithsonian to DC’s illuminated monuments.
During the day the city is awash with greenery so once you’re done with sightseeing, go people watching in the parks. Spend your second day taking all the history DC has to offer and maybe make your way out to Georgetown for some mid day shopping and a bite to eat at one of the many fantastic restaurants.
As we head to northeast New York we stop to feel the thunder and bask in the spray of one of North America’s best known natural attractions – Niagara Falls. These famous falls are located on the Niagara River, which drains from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, and form the actual border between USA and Canada. There are two major falls – the American Falls and the iconic Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls. The Horseshoe Falls has a drop of 53 metres (173 feet) and the American Falls has a drop of between 21-30 metres (70-100 feet). We enjoy a cruise on the ‘Maid of the Mist’, which takes up right up to the base of the falls.
Leaving the rushing water behind for the beauty of New York wine country. The Finger Lakes are a series of long and thin lakes that mostly run in a north-south direction. They are also some of the deepest lakes in USA. The area is also New York State’s largest wine producing region with over 100 vineyards located around the lakes. We visit a few wineries where you have the option to taste some local production. There is also a chance to take a dip in the cool waters of one of the lakes.
Today we head to the capital and largest city in Vermont, Burlington. Take a moment to enjoy the Lake Champlain Shoreline and the stunning views of the Adirondack mountains. Highlights of Burlington include the Magic Hat Brewing Company and ECHO Lake Aquarium or get your caffeine fix at Radio Bean.
During the winter, this ‘Ski Capital of the East’ puts on an incredible winter spread, but remains a highlight during summer months with hiking, biking and swimming within the same mountain range. Stowe isn’t complete without a stop by the Ben and Jerrry’s ice cream factory!
Enjoy a free day to hike, bike or shop around this quaint New England Town
