Meet the local driver/tour leader on arrival to America. Explore the epic sights of Manhattan, as time permits. On day 2 we will explore this amazing city–Empire State Building, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and much more. We spend two nights at a hotel in the New York City area.
We drive to historic Washington DC area. If time permits, we might have an evening tour of monuments. The morning of Day 4 we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city including the central area of government buildings, monuments and the White House. No trip to DC is complete without a visit to the Smithsonian Institution, the largest complex of museums in the country, covering Air and Space, Natural History, Art and more.
Today we leave Washington DC, drive through the scenic countryside in the state of Virginia to Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains area.
This morning the rushing Pigeon River provides an excellent opportunity for white water rafting before we drive to the world’s capital of Country Music – Nashville.
Here we can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame or learn how to line dance in one of the many country music clubs of Nashville.
This morning we leave for Memphis, Tennessee, where we can take a tour of Elvis Presley’s mansion or the world famous Sun Studios. Why not spend some time on Beale Street in downtown Memphis with all its famous shops and Blues and Rock’n’Roll music.
From Country Music in Nashville to Blues in Memphis and today we drive through the state of Mississippi to the Jazz city of New Orleans. We take a brief orientation tour before checking into our hotel. This evening we head for the French Quarter, the heart of the cities music, food and fun times.
Today we head for Texas, where everything is big. Explore the NASA space center or take in the sights of Houston.
Leaving Houston we drive to Austin, the state capital of Texas. In the afternoon there is option for swimming Barton Springs. Tonight explore the dizzying array of music venues belting out blues, jazz, and rock.
Today we leave Texas and take a journey across the barren, wide-open spaces of New Mexico to Carlsbad, where we have the chance to visit Carlsbad Caverns. This amazing network of caverns is hidden deep beneath the surface. Underground trails reveal an eerie world of spires and tunnels. We will camp in the area tonight.
We drive to the state capital of New Mexico to Santa Fe. This is a unique American city with adobe architecture, rich Spanish and Pueblo Indian cultures, and many art galleries.
We head for the North East corner of Arizona, home to the huge Navajo Indian reservation. Within the reservation lies Monument Valley Tribal Park, a landscape of brilliant red-rock mesas and towers made famous in countless old western films. Here we have a chance to take a jeep tour with a Navajo guide to take a closer look at this sacred land. For a truly unique experience, have an overnight stay among the sandstone buttes in Hogan, a traditional Navajo structure.
We cross the desert today to perhaps the world’s greatest natural wonder, the Grand Canyon. We go to the visitors centre and then have a chance to hike around the rim or down into the canyon. We even have the chance for an unforgettable view of Grand Canyon from a helicopter or airplane. Later, we make our way to Yavapai Point, one of the best places to see the amazing sunset.
From natural wonders to man-made ones – Las Vegas, where we spend one night in a hotel. We will tour the famous “Strip” and visit some of the amazing hotels. There is also time to relax by the hotel pool.
We cross the Mojave Desert to Los Angeles. The afternoon is free for sightseeing in Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
We explore the dynamic sites of LA, options include surf lesson or volleyball at Venice Beach, shopping and star searching in Hollywood, or thrills and a “behind the scenes” look of how movies are produced at Universal Studios.
Today you have a last opportunity for sightseeing and shopping in the city of angels before we transfer to Los Angeles International Airport for departure.
